Example of how to maintain organizationYou’ve worked hard to get organized. That’s awesome! But things don’t magically stay organized. It’s an ongoing process, not an end result. I want you to know it’s easy to maintain organization when done on a regular basis. Let it slide and I guarantee things will return to the way they were. You certainly don’t want that to happen.

I equate organizing and maintenance to losing weight and keeping it off. It takes ongoing effort and new habits.

Here are 10 easy tips you can incorporate into your daily routine.

Productivity

  • If a task takes just a couple of minutes, do it then rather than delay it.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Tasks that feel overwhelming are often left undone. The solution? Break down the task into manageable pieces. Keep breaking it down until it feels doable.
  • Make to-do lists or create reminders so tasks are not forgotten.
  • Minimize distractions. Save activities like social media for off-work time.
  • Process email three to four times max per day or it invariably becomes a time suck.

Space Organization

  • One In/One Out Rule. To keep the proper balance of stuff vs. space means if you add something, subtract a similar item.
  • Allow 15 minutes toward the end of the day to declutter.
  • Assign a home for every item so you know where to find things and return them after use.
  • Avoid bargains unless they’re things you truly need or they’ll waste valuable space.
  • Use vertical space such as a tall bookcase or shelves.

If you’re curious to know what organization is, and isn’t, read my blog post, I Organized But it Didn’t Last…Why?

There are lots of other ways to maintain organization. You can start with these. Once they become automatic, you can add more. You’ve done the hard part…I encourage you to keep it up!
